Texture Transfers Between Projects
You can transfer existing paint data from one object or object version to another. You can do this by transferring Layers, Channels, or Nodes.
This is useful for re-creating work on an object with minimal changes and similar topology or an object with the same topology but a different UV layout. By using the old textures transferred across onto the new object, you can save time instead of starting again from scratch.
Using the Transfer dialog for your chosen texture, you can specify which object, version, and patches to use as a source, and which of these to use as a destination.
In some cases, where the topology of the object might have changed between versions, there may be inconsistencies from the transfer. You can specify a patch Fill Color to highlight where the textures didn't transfer to a patch, and then fix only these patches separately after the transfer.
Mari’s texture transfer uses the Bakery engine for a fast and high-performance texture transfer.
Note: Mari’s old particle-based transfer system (used before Mari 7.5) is still available through the Python API. Documentation for the old particle system can be found here. It is recommended to use the Bakery transfer system as it is much faster.
You can transfer Nodes, Layers, and Channels. To see specific workflows for each of these methods, go to the following pages:
